If you plan to attend, please send an email to rsvp (at) phillyalt (dot) net
Our next meeting will be a participatory conversation in the spirit of Open Spaces and round table discussion. We did a meeting like this in November, and it's a great way to get to know other members and hear about what everyone is interested in, etc. I wasn't able to get a food sponsor in time for this meeting,
but anyone interested in chipping in $5 for pizza can say so in their RSVP to rsvp (at) phillyalt (dot) net, and I will be glad to order it and have it delivered to the room.
The first part of the meeting I am reserving for anyone who wants to do a "Lightning Talk." Lightning Talks are approx 10 minute presentations, with or without slides, on a subject you are interested in. I've had a few volunteers, and there is room for more if you have something to discuss - please shoot me an email if you'd like to do one, just so I have an idea of how many there may be. The topic is really up to you - it can be about a new technology or tool you are interested, an experience you've learned from, a challenge you're facing, etc. It's casual, can be shorter than 10 mins if you want, and you don't have to be an expert in the subject you are interested in to discuss it. Some of the lightning talk topics suggested recently that may make an appearance (names withheld to protect the innocent):
- Lickable Models: Sweetening DDD with Syntactic Sugar
- Style Changes to Legacy Code for Agility
- "Beyond Brian's Blog" - Resources for improving as a software developer (not my title!!)
- TDDing WPF with the MVP Pattern
- WiX - Easy and Flexible Open Source Installer Tool for Windows and Web apps
- Resharper Fu - An intro to the power of this awesome Visual Studio add-in (free license giveaway, too!)
The remaining time will be split up among topics suggested and voted on by the group, however we see fit. This was a fun exercise last time we did this, as we played a voting game called "35" that helped us select the most popular topics, and then had a round table discussion on each.
Even more fun at our last meeting was that many of us went over to the White Dog (I think that's where we ended up, or the place next door, my memory is failing me) for a couple beers and more conversation. Hope you can join us this time!
